About Our Classes

Our classes are designed for students who want to learn and are excited about being in a group setting for part of their educational program. Class enrollment requires an interest in the topic and positive participation in the group and appropriate behavior and contributions are expected. Please discuss the options carefully with your student/s to ensure that your student is excited about participating in the classes you are considering. We strongly encourage you to discuss all aspects of group classes with your student/s. Remember; these classes are not a requirement and if a student is hesitant about attending a class, please discuss other options with your facilitator. Also required is a commitment to regular attendance and respect for our class teachers. Independent work done outside of class and/or homework is expected and necessary for many of our classes. Parental support and oversight of this work is expected and an important part of a student’s success.

Arriving at classes, leaving classes, and behavior are critical areas where we need cooperation from students and parents to ensure student safety and a positive learning environment for all students. We want to communicate a clear set of guidelines and make apparent our need for student cooperation and parent support.

In addition to the Student Rules for Conduct found in the Student Handbook with which all students are expected to comply, the following rules help protect our students in attendance at the Center: Students may arrive no more than 10 minutes before their class begins.

  • Students must go directly to their classrooms upon arrival. Parents of grades 4-12, please wait until your student has entered the building before leaving.
  • Students in grades K-3 must be signed in and out of their classes each day with the instructor.
  • Elementary and middle school students must be picked up or, in the case of high school students, leave campus when their class ends. The student’s transportation must notify the school if they are going to arrive more than 10 minutes after the student’s class has ended. If an elementary or middle school student has 30 minutes or more between classes she/he must be supervised by a parent during that time.
  • Students may not wait in the parking lot between classes.
  • Behaviors considered disruptive and disrespectful to the teacher or fellow students will not be tolerated.

  • Lunch supervision changes each semester and is only available if there are volunteers to support it. All behavior expectations still apply during lunch.

Policy for Dealing with Dangerous or Problematic Behaviors.

  • Behavior causing danger to one’s self or others is cause for immediate dismissal from all center classes.Pathways staff will consider re-enrollment in center classes at the beginning of each semester.
  • Behaviors in conflict with the guidelines listed above will result in the following:

a)First Occurrence- will result in a verbal reminder of the appropriate behavior or procedure to the student and/or parent.

b) Second Occurrence- will result in a conference with the student reminding them of the required behavior and notification of the parent by phone.

c) Third Occurrence- requires a conference with the parent, student, IST, instructor and Area Coordinator before attendance in classes can resume. A student contract will be initiated to ensure compliance with behavioral expectations.

d) Fourth Occurrence- dismissal from all center classes for a minimum of the remainder of the semester. Pathways staff will consider re-enrollment in center classes at the beginning of each semester.

If you have questions or concerns regarding the policies and procedures, please do not hesitate to call. We appreciate your support.
