About Me!

“Education is not preparation for life; education is life itself.” – John Dewey

I joined Pathways in 2005 after working as a classroom teacher for 10 years and taking time to raise my two children.

Coming from a family of educators, I knew at a young age that I wanted to be a teacher. In high school, I attended an Independent Study program, similar to Pathways, and it became clear then that I wanted to explore alternatives to traditional education. What I didn’t know was that I’d go from being an Independent Study Student to an Independent Study Teacher!

To further my interest, I attended college at UC Santa Cruz specifically for their teacher education program, which emphasized “Teacher as Agent of Social Change.” I received my Teaching Credential and Bachelors Degree in Sociology from UC Santa Cruz at a time when narrative evaluation was the only grading option available.

I began my teaching career in Santa Cruz and over the next 10 years taught the primary grades in a wide variety of schools from Los Angeles to South San Francisco. My last years as a classroom teacher were in Fairfax, CA where I helped pioneer a cross age open classroom model for students in grades 1-3.

I feel very fortunate to be a part of Pathways and to touch children’s lives in a meaningful way through individualized learning.

This year, in addition to working as a Marin IST, I will be leading a language arts and math class.
