Pathways Charter School is a personalized learning school that uses the model of independent study. Pathways Charter serves a broad range of students with a variety of previous educational backgrounds. Students learn about Pathways Charter School in different ways. Families currently enrolled in the school might refer a student or family. Some students are referred by home schooling or charter organizations, while others, looking for a better academic program for their students, find us through local resources.
Steps in Enrollment:
How do I get started?
Once you have reviewed the information on this website, and if you are interested in pursuing enrollment for your student, then the first step is to register for an Information Session.
Next, you will receive an email or a phone call inviting you to a regional Information Session. (High school students are required to attend the information session, and middle school students are encouraged to attend, as well.) At this informational meeting, a local administrator will present an overview of the Pathways program, including the expectations of students and parents. This meeting is also an opportunity for you to ask questions about our school and the types of services and programs we offer. At the end, if you feel that Pathways would be an appropriate placement for your student, then you may request a registration packet to take home and complete. Please submit the completed packet to our main office. Once the completed registration packet is received and processed, you will get a call from either the main office or your assigned independent study teacher (see below).
Enrollment and Registration
After attending the Information Session, you have two weeks to submit your completed registration packet to the office; otherwise, we will drop your student’s name from our pending enrollment list. Once we receive the completed packet, we will contact you and inform you if there is space available for your student to begin in our program immediately or whether we are temporarily full. Enrollment is on a first-come first-served basis, based on completed registration packets received at our main office. In the event that we receive a completed registration packet and do not have space for the student at that time, we will begin a lottery pool. When space does become available, all students in the lottery pool are randomly drawn and placed on a numbered wait list. We then offer space to students in order from that list. Once your student does have a space in our program, they will receive a call from their assigned teacher to schedule your preliminary meeting. Your student’s first day of enrollment in Pathways will be no sooner than the date of that first meeting.
With the advent of SB277, many parents have questions about immunizations. For more detailed information, please see the link to the right called “SB277." Generally, students fall into several categories:
Fully immunized: These students may participate in our program and access all site classes and resources.
Medical waiver: These students may participate in our program and access all site classes and resources.
IEP provision: If students must access classes as indicated in their IEP, then they may do so (regardless of immunization status).
Partially immunized or not immunized but with a valid Personal Belief Exemption: A Personal Belief Exemption (PBE) filed with a school before January 1, 2016, is valid until entry into the next grade span (Kindergarten or 7th grade). If a student has already reached 7th grade by the 2015-2016 school year, then that student’s existing PBE is valid until the student graduates from high school. Valid PBEs may be transferred between schools in California. These students may participate in our program and access all site classes and resources.
Partially immunized or not immunized and without a valid PBE: Students who failed to complete the series of required immunizations within the specified time allowed under the law will still be allowed to participate in our Independent Study program but will not be allowed to attend site classes until the series of immunizations has been completed. However, students will still be able to enter our buildings to meet with Independent Study Teachers and participate in one-on-one tutoring.
Special Education Enrollment
For those students requesting enrollment with prior special education identification, we ask that you provide us a copy of the most current IEP when you submit the registration documents. It is important to assess the needs and services of the special education student as required by the IEP. If, as a parent, you have a concern or question about integrating into the home study environment, please contact Elizabeth Sanchez in our Student Services department: email@example.com or 707-585-6518.
Students may enter Kindergarten only if they turn five before September 2nd. Students who will have their fifth birthday between September 2 and December 2 may elect to enroll in Transitional Kindergarten.
Please note: Pathways does not have an early admission policy and, therefore, students may not just enroll in Kindergarten on their fifth birthday. Transitional Kindergarten is not mandatory.
If you have questions about our program or this enrollment process, please contact your region's Area Coordinator.
