Week 4 - Stravinsky

Day 1: This week's feature composer is Igor Stravinsky. . The feature composition is "Arioso" from Concerto in D for Strings. A chamber orchestra in Europe asked Stravinsky to compose a piece to help them celebrate their 20th anniversary. He composed this three movement concerto for strings. The orchestra first performed it in 1947. Stravinsky composed this lyrical music for the second movement and called it II Arioso." 

Day 2: This week's feature composer is Igor Stravinsky. The feature composition is "Arioso" from Concerto in D for Strings. Stravinsky composed a three movement concerto for strings to celebrate the 20th anniversary of a chamber orchestra in Europe. 11 Arioso" is the second movement. Stravinsky chose a moderate tempo, a lyrical melody, and a gently moving rhythm to create a mood that could be happy or could be sad. 

Day 3: This week's feature composer is Igor Stravinsky. The feature composition is II Arioso" from Concerto in D for Strings. "Arioso" is the second movement of Stravinsky's concerto for strings. Stravinsky composed music that stretches, falls, and pulls the sound of the strings. He chose a gently moving rhythm to create a very lyrical melody. Was he creating a happy mood or a sad one? Stravinsky wanted us to decide for ourselves. 

Day 4: This week's feature composer is Igor Stravinsky. The feature composition is II Arioso" from Concerto in D for Strings. Stravinsky's concerto was first performed in 1947-just after World War II. For this second movement of his concerto, Stravinsky composed a lyrical melody and a gently moving rhythm. He wanted the sound of the strings to rise and fall, stretch, and pull as the music moves along. Stravinsky let us decide whether we think his music is happy or sad, or maybe something else. 

Day 5: This week's feature composition is the" Arioso" from Concerto in D for Strings. Can you think of the name of the composer? (Short pause.) If you are thinking of Igor Stravinsky you are correct. Stravinsky created a lyrical melody and used a gently moving rhythm for this second movement of his concerto for string orchestra. He called it "Arioso."
