MONDAY: This week's featured composer is Joseph Haydn (HIGH-din). The feature composition is the first movement from Symphony No. 6. In this symphony, Haydn planned to write music that would paint a musical picture of morning. He nicknamed his music "Le Matin," French for "the morning."
TUESDAY: This week's feature composer is Joseph Haydn. The feature composition is the first movement from Symphony No. 6. In this movement of his symphony, Haydn wanted to paint a picture of morning, "Le Matin." He decided that a violin playing very softly at the beginning would give his music the feeling of the quiet before the sun rises. Haydn makes his music gradually louder to give the feeling of the sun rising brightly.
WEDNESDAY: This week's feature composer is Joseph Haydn. The feature composition is the first movement from Symphony No. 6. Haydn must have listened carefully to the sounds of morning as he was thinking of ideas for his musical picture. After a soft beginning and the crescendo of the rising sun, Haydn uses the flute, oboe, and other wind instruments to imitate the voices of song birds singing and calling to one another.
THURSDAY: This week's feature composer is Joseph Haydn. The feature composition is the first movement from Symphony No. 6. In his musical picture of "Le Matin," the morning, Haydn begins with the sun rising and the songs of birds. Then Haydn used short, fast motives to capture the energy of people getting busy with their work for the day.
FRIDAY: This week's feature composition is the first movement from Symphony No. 6. Do you remember the name of the composer? (Short pause.) That's right, Joseph Haydn. Haydn painted a picture of a bright sunrise and a busy morning. But when we really listen, he brings back the happy sounds of the flute and oboes. Perhaps Haydn was telling us to stop and listen to the birds and nature even when we aer busy.
