PHYSICAL HEALTH RESOURCES
Student Sick Policy
Pathways goal is to maintain a safe and healthy environment for all students and staff. To that end, we ask that parents/guardians not send sick students to school. In general, if your child has been out sick, in order to return to classes or the learning center, they should be well enough to participate in school (e.g., can adequately manage improving cough and congestion on their own, not overly fatigued), and care of the returning child should not interfere with the school staff’s ability to teach or care for other students.

Below you will find a visual reference provided by the California Department of Public Health for when to keep your kids home from school. Simple steps to help prevent the spread of germs and viruses are to cover cough and sneeze with a tissue or flexed elbow, wash hands often with soap and water for 20 seconds, or use hand sanitizer. For COVID questions, please refer to our COVID-19 Information and Guidance page.

Review this information from the CDC for additional guidance on other common illnesses (e.g., strep throathand-foot-mouth diseasenorovirushead licepink eyeimpetigoscabiesmeasles, and molluscum contagiosum).

Pathways prioritizes the health and safety of our students and staff. As the state and federal guidelines have evolved over the past few years, our protocols continue to align with the most current recommended guidelines. Currently, the CDPH has moved away from separate guidance on COVID-19 and now advises the following actions to manage all respiratory viruses. The following information includes the latest updates from the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) as of July 2024. For more details, please visit the Safe Schools Hub. These steps outline what to do if someone tests positive for COVID-19 or becomes ill with any respiratory virus. Remember, it’s best to test for COVID for any respiratory virus symptoms.

Recommendations for people who test positive / all respiratory viruses:

·    You can go back to your normal activities when, for at least 24 hours, both are true:

o   Your symptoms are getting better overall, and

o   You have not had a fever (without fever-reducing medication).

·    When you go back to your normal activities, take added precautions over the next 5 days, such as taking additional steps for cleaner air, hygiene, masks, physical distancing, and/or testing when you will be around other people indoors.

o   Keep in mind that you may still be able to spread the virus that made you sick, even if you are feeling better. You are likely to be less contagious at this time, depending on factors like how long you were sick, or how sick you were.

o   If you develop a fever or you start to feel worse after you have gone back to normal activities, stay home and away from others again until, for at least 24 hours, both are true: your symptoms are improving overall, and you have not had a fever (and are not using fever-reducing medication). Then take added precautions for the next 5 days.

Pathways will provide masks to all staff and any student upon request. If using masks from home, remember to upgrade to a KN95, N95, or KF94 for the best protection.

MEDICAL FORMS
Whenever possible, administer medications at home. If your child needs to take medication or requires medical treatment during school hours, please have your medical provider complete the appropriate forms and turn them in to the school office, along with the appropriate medication, in appropriately marked containers, prior to the first day of your students attendance.
